Fisher say they owe us one, warns Herne Bay boss Simon Halsey

Wednesday 04th April 2012
HERNE BAY boss Simon Halsey expects a tough game when Fisher arrive at Winch’s Field on Saturday, looking to keep the champagne on ice at Winch’s Field.

Herne Bay need only eight more points from their last seven games to secure a deserved promotion into the Ryman League.

They came away from Tunbridge Wells with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of home keeper Dean Nash, who gifted Ashley Baverstock and Michael Jenner (who scored from a 40-yard free-kick) second half goals at Culverden Stadium.

All going well, wins over Fisher on Saturday, Tunbridge Wells on Easter Monday, will seal the Kent League title with a win away to Corinthian on 14 April – with four games to spare.

Steve Firkins and Bill Walton, meanwhile, bring their Fisher side to the Kent coast on Saturday and Halsey said: “They’re going to come and have a go at us.  I know Bill and Steve and I get on well with them.

“Bill’s words to me were after we beat them 5-1 at their place, “we owe you now down at yours!”

“I know full well what I’m going to get from them.  They’re going to come wanting to win.  They want to win their points for Fisher so I’ve got no doubt we’ll have a game on our hands on Saturday.”

Tunbridge Wells arrive at Winch’s Field on Easter Monday, looking to rectify last night’s defeat.

Halsey said: “They want to come back and rectify that, but we’ve got to make sure they don’t get a sniff, either on Saturday or Monday.

“We’ve used the word relentless quite a lot this season.  In our games we have to be relentless.”

Halsey handed former Folkestone Invicta striker, Simon Austin, his debut last night and he got through 87 minutes, before former Canterbury City striker, Joe Kennett, made his debut during a three minute cameo.

Halsey, meanwhile, says he has next season in mind.

He said: “Joe’s had a debut.  A set of fresh legs, who we’re going to need over the next seven games now.  Joe’s with us now but this is me building for next season now.   I’m thinking of next season already, wherever we are.  I’m trying to get players’ involved now, who I’m looking to bring in to enhance the squad for next season so Joe’s here to do a job now.”
