Fleet plan for Hatters' visit
Wednesday 03rd March 2010
EBBSFLEET UNITED are preparing for the visit of giants Luton Town to Stonebridge Road later in the month, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Kent club average gates of just 999 to Stonebridge Road and have six clubs below them in the Blue Square Premier crowd table.
Luton Town, meanwhile, are the largest supported club in the division, attracting average gates of 7,021 to Kennilworth Road, and the Fleet are making plans ahead of the lucrative game on 20th March.
“It is estimated that Luton will be bringing between 1,200 and 1,600 (fans),” club secretary Peter Danzey told the Fleet unofficial fans’ forum.
Club officials met Kent police and local authorities to plan for the high-profile match - one that should attract a crowd of at least 3,000 - against a Luton Town side that are presently occupying a play-off place.
“The segregation will start about five yards past the half-way line towards the Swanscombe End,” added Mr Danzey.
“We are also giving Luton the seats in the Swanscombe End of the main stand.”
Mr Danzey appreciated that this may upset loyal Ebbsfleet fans, adding, “Of course we understand why some supporters might be miffed not being to stand or sit in their usual place but hope they understand the need to do this.”
