Fleet ready for their day of destiny

EBBSFLEET UNITED head coach Liam Daish is urging his players to grab history with both hands as they bid for a first-ever Wembley appearance in today’s FA Trophy semi-final second leg clash at Aldershot Town.

"It's going to be a great atmosphere but we really haven't achieved a thing yet. It will be a new experience for some of our lads and I want them to look forward to it and finish the job off.,” Daish told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk.

And contrary to the expectations of many of the pundits he has spoken to over the last seven days, Daish insists his side can't afford to sit back and wait for the final whistle.

"Obviously we've got to keep things tight, but it's not realistic to go there and defend on our 18-yard box. And if we get another goal then it will make it very difficult for them. We've got to take the responsibility ourselves. I'm sure we'll put on the right performance to get the right result."

Central defender James Smith is still struggling with a hamstring injury and Paul McCarthy may face a late fitness test following an ankle injury last Saturday.

The club sold more than 300 tickets on Tuesday night with hundreds more Fleet fans expected to pay on the afternoon of the game.

Today’s game will not be decided on away goals. If the tie is level after 90 minutes and then extra-time, penalties will decide which team walks out at Wembley Stadium on May 10 to play either Torquay United or York City.
