Foley moves swiftly to snap up keeper Bradshaw

Monday 02nd November 2009
VCD ATHLETIC have signed former Cray Wanderers goalkeeper Jack Bradshaw, 19, from neighbouring Bulmers Cider Kent League side Erith Town, writes Jeff Perkins.

The keeper teams up with his seventeen-year-old brother Tom, who broke into the Vickers’ first team during last year’s Kent League double winning campaign.

The Ryman League Division One North side moved swiftly to capture Bradshaw’s signature following his departure from Erith Town recently to bolster the squad and increase the competition for James Tedder’s No 1 Jersey.

Reserve goalkeeper John Parsons suffered a broken finger and ligament damage recently in a freak warm up injury while on loan to Vandanel Kent County League outfit Cray Valley (Paper Mills).

Manager Paul Foley announced the news to www.vcd-athletic.co.uk following his side’s impressive 2-0 away win at Potters Bar Town at the weekend.

“I am really pleased to bring Jack to the club finally as we did try to get him a couple of seasons ago when he left Cray Wanderers but he had already signed for Erith Town.

“Jack is a real prospect and he has already proved by playing in the Ryman South for Cray that he is ready for this level.

“It will be tough to dislodge James who has been in fine form this season and played a massive part in our title surge last year but it is great to have a keeper signed up who can slot straight in.

“With John being out of action for a few weeks we needed to get someone in and the timing was perfect as Jack had decided to leave Erith recently.

“As I understand it he got injured earlier in the season and Erith had to get a new keeper in so he has been forced to sit out a couple of games.

“Good keepers are very hard to come by so we had to move quickly. He knows a few of the lads here already and with his brother Tom part of our first team set up he will settle in very quickly I am sure.”

Bradshaw teams up with the squad as they prepare for a trio of home games at Oakwood with Ware up first in the Ryman North on Saturday 7th November, followed by a midweek Isthmian League Cup (Sponsored by Championship Manager) second round tie against Ryman Premier League side Margate on Tuesday 10th November, before entertaining Harlow Town on Saturday 14th November.

VCD are continuing to offer concessions for club members and all players associated with the club.
Local junior side Charlton Reds Under 7s will be performing ballboy and mascot duties for the Ware game after being put through their paces in another of the popular pre-match coaching sessions with the first team management.

The Crayford based club are clearly putting the effort in to entice the young fans of tomorrow to Oakwood which is borne out by their improved attendances this season.
