Foley snaps up former Irish youth international O'Shea
Thursday 18th February 2010
VCD ATHLETIC manager Paul Foley has today snapped up Callum O'Shea, who has been plying his trade for Cray Wanderers in the Ryman Premier League this season, having joined the Bromley based club from Charlton Athletic, writes Jeff Perkins.
O'Shea is a former Eire U15/U16 international and joins up with fellow Eire youth player Kane Rice at VCD, who also represented his country from U14 to U17. The pacy right winger served a two year scholarship with Charlton Athletic joining from South East London rivals Millwall before joining Cray Wanderers in 2009 breaking into the first team squad in quick time.
The 19-year-old has also appeared this season for Ryman League Division One North side Maldon Town and spent a loan spell with Bulmers Cider Kent League side Erith Town, whilst on loan from Cray Wanderers.
“At this time of year you always get suspensions and injuries as the games mount up and with Tom Bradshaw not yet fit following a hamstring injury sustained against Ashford Town we wanted to get a wide player in,” Foley explained to www.vcd-athletic.co.uk.“Callum was very keen to join up with us as he had heard good things about how we do things at VCD and we are delighted to have him on board.
“He can play in a few positions which is an attribute we always look for in a player and he will go into the squad for Saturday's game at home to Romford.“He just wants to get settled and play as regularly as he can and he feels we can provide that stability and hopefully see him progress as our other young players are doing.”
O'Shea also has Level One and Level Two FA Coaching badges completed during his time with Charlton Athletic.
