FOLKESTONE INVICTA assistant manager Roland Edge says he does not want to see a repeat of their poor second half performance that saw them crash to a 3-2 defeat at Hythe Town at the weekend.

Neil Cugley's side finished in sixth-place in the Isthmian League Premier Division last season, missing out on the play-offs by just one point.

Invicta kick-off their new campaign with a home game against Worthing, whom visit Cheriton Road on Saturday 10 August, before travelling to Bromley to tackle newly-promoted side Cray Wanderers on Wednesday, 13 August.

“Well, listen, you follow the league and stuff like that, there isn’t an easy game, is there?” said Edge.

“Worthing arguably play the best football in the whole league, if you allow them. We know how they play. 

“I think the manager is really good there and I think he’s got a good assistant and if you’re not on song, they’ll pull you apart and make it a miserable game.

“Cray pretty much walked the league below which shows they’re a good calibre.

“Joe Taylor’s up front, we know what he’s about, a good player and he’s got good players around him.

“Listen, if we don’t start bright we’ll be in trouble and our players know that and we have to do everything to put that right.”

Edge insists the Isthmian Premier Division will be a tough league again this season.

“People in the league seem to move about, three or four clubs have got money and they go and raid other clubs and build from there.  Sometimes that doesn’t work, sometimes it does,” said Edge.

“We know it’s tough but the league becomes a lot easier by how you start. If you start and pick up early points, you can settle and play your football. 

“If you’re chasing your points straight away and not quite getting them, it can become quite a very difficult league.

“Listen, we’ve had that on the year we won on the last day to stay in it. We’re going to try our utmost for that not to happen.

“Midtable isn’t a bad place to be in all fairness.  Everyone has aspirations to do the job and go up or whatever.  I mean I just think with the group of players’ that we’ve got, if they get it right and get their heads right, we’ll be alright.”
