We’ll hopefully give Leiston a good game, says Folkestone Invicta assistant manager Roland Edge

FOLKESTONE INVICTA assistant manager Roland Edge says The FA Trophy gives his side a chance to take your mind away from their League campaign.

Neil Cugley’s side climbed up into seventh-place in the Bostik Premier table following their 1-0 win at struggling Tooting & Mitcham United on Tuesday night.

Invicta claimed the points courtesy of Callum Davies’ 64^th minute header after Terrors midfielder Chace O’Neill skied a penalty on the stroke of half time before being sent off for picking up a couple of yellow cards nine minutes before the winning goal.

Folkestone Invicta travel to Suffolk for the second time in seven days, this time in The FA Trophy First Qualifying Round tomorrow, fresh from their impressive 5-1 win there in the League last weekend.

Leiston go into the game sitting in fourth-place in the Bostik Premier table with 26 points from 14 games, three points clear of Folkestone, who have a couple of games in hand.

“Leiston are a decent side. We’re not disillusioned, 5-1 was courtesy of hurricane Brian pretty much and the only thing that surprised me is they won the toss and decided to go against the wind,” reflected Edge.

“If we go up there and the weather’s perfect we know we’re in for a really tough game.

“They play it the right way, they move the ball around well and they’ve got some decent players.  We just have to be ready to go and match them.

“Ade Yusuff is back for selection. I think we lose Sam Hasler through yellow cards,” revealed Edge.

“We’ll go up there with the squad we’ve got.  I’m sure Cugs and I have got enough time on the coach to sort out what we’re going to play and what we’re going to do and we’ll go from there and hopefully give them a good game.

“Money aside, every club needs the money.  It’s just nice to take your mind away from our day to day League matters. It’s a bit of fun, it’s an opportunity to play bigger sides, bigger crowds, yes, it’s a good day out.”

Folkestone Invicta go into the game as slight underdogs and Edge said: “Well, do you know, a win’s pleasing. Everybody’s taking points of everybody in this league, it’s about consistency. It’s definitely not about underestimating your opponent.  You come up against the top five it’s there, you’re the underdog pretty much at Folkestone so it’s kind of a care free game. It’s the ones that you’re expected to win (like against Tooting & Mitcham) and you have to be really, really focused and take maximum points and so far we’ve managed to do that.”
