FOLKESTONE INVICTA chairman Lynn Woods has paid tribute to Kent Footballing Legend Jimmy Jackson, who has decided to hang up his boots, writes Stephen McCartney.
The 34-year-old star spent the last eighteen months of a glittering playing career at Cheriton Road and was the experienced head amongst a very young and resilient side.
Jackson guided the club through the play-offs as they celebrated promotion into the Ryman Premier League via play-off wins over Leatherhead and Godalming Town and he brought the curtain down on his career with a goal in the Kent Senior Cup Final, although Sittingbourne collected the silverware on the night.
“Jimmy might have been past his peak by the time he came to Cheriton Road, but that only testifies to how outstanding a player he must have been at the height of his game,” said Mr Woods.
“He has been an inspiration to the younger players around him this last eighteen months and has shown us great loyalty and commitment knowing and accepting that the club couldn’t afford to pay him as much as he was worth.
“We all wish Jimmy well and look forward to seeing him again - a certain candidate for our Hall of Fame.”
Jackson, with a sweet left-foot, was Gravesend & Northfleet’s record appearance holder, also served Margate with distinction and is a fans-favourite with his consistent performances.
