Folkestone stages charity match for two Kent hospices

Two Kent based hospices will be the winners when staff from British Energy’s Dungeness B power station take on the Kent County League in a charity match at the Buzzlines Stadium in Folkestone next month, writes Stephen McCartney.

The match takes place on Sunday, 6^th May at Folkestone Invicta’s Cheriton Road ground and is part of a year long fund-raising effort for Pilgrim’s Hospice in Ashford and Demelza House, Sittingbourne.

Demelza House provides necessary short breaks, a range of services and respite care for children with life limiting conditions.

Pilgrims Hospice, meanwhile, provides specialist palliative care to anyone in east Kent suffering from advanced, progressive and incurable illness, whilst continuing to support their families and carers.

Spencer Lawrence, Dungeness B’s football team manager, told www.kentishfootball.co.uk today: “We’re really grateful to both the Kent County League and Folkestone Invicta Football Club for making this match happen.

“We’re working hard to get a Premiership referee and a celebrity signed up for the day but if not, it’ll be a great day out anyway.

“We’ve already raised over £10,000 for the hospices but if we can draw a good crowd on 6^th May, we’ll raise even more.”

The gates will be open from 1pm with entertainment and an auction, which includes a signed England shirt and raffle prizes to be won.

Admission prices cost just £3 (adults), £1 (children) with family tickets available at just £5 - for 2 adults and 2 children together.
