Ford wary of Bromley reaction
PLAY-OFF chasing Welling United boss Andy Ford wants to complete the double over local rivals Bromley at Park View Road on New Years Day, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Wings came away from Hayes Lane with an impressive 3-1 win on Boxing Day, a result that took the club to within one place of the Blue Square South play-offs.
And Ford, speaking to BBC Radio Kent, wants his side to bag maximum points when the two sides meet again on the first day of 2009.
“I’ve just said to the lads we’ve done half a job and we’ve got to finish off the job,” said Ford.
“Always when you get beat you ask for a reaction, and their gaffer will be asking for a reaction from them. Hopefully they won’t get one.
“I will be expecting a reaction so if any of our lads think it will be an easy one again at home - they will not be in that frame of mind before the game - I can assure you!”
The Wings have completed half their season and have accumulated 36 points, the same number of points as fifth placed Team Bath, who come to Park View Road next month.
And Ford said: “I think we should be knocking on that door now. I just want to get into that play-off position because it gives everybody a lift.
“What I asked the lads, I’ve put them under pressure the last three or four weeks.
“Half the job has been done so far. We’ve got another job still to do. The squad is looking a lot stronger, we’ve got a few more options on the bench.
“Everybody’s unhappy that their not in the side, which is what I want. I want decisions to make every week and I’ve had to make a few at the moment.
“Any teams that in a promotion battle will have those problems. We’re getting there now where as before we haven’t had those decisions to make.”
