Gillingham play Folkestone Invicta for Micky Dix's benefit match

Friday 30th March 2012
GILLINGHAM are the visitors to Folkestone Invicta next Monday to take on Neil Cugley’s side for a well-deserved benefit game for long-serving club stalwart Micky Dix.

Dix has done just about everything at Invicta after playing for the previous town Folkestone club in his younger days.

Now, of course, assistant manager to Cugley, one of Dix’s most valuable contributions was as overall boss of the club’s youth set-up for many years during which current first-teamers like Liam Friend, Josh Vincent, Josh Burchell and Liam Dickson were making their mark at the younger levels.

Dix has also managed both the reserves and the first team at various times since Invicta become a senior club in the early 1990s.

Manager Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk: “Many people don’t realise how much Mick has done and continues to do for this club.

"And he is also always very much involved in helping to organise memorial and benefit games so it’s only fitting that that he should get a benefit of his own at last.”

Admission to the Cheriton Road clash, which kicks off at 7:45pm, on Monday night is £5 but children go free if accompanied by a full-paying adult.

A Gentlemen’s Evening has also been arranged as part of Dix’s benefit – taking place in Stripes Club on Thursday, April 5 when the guest speaker is former Everton and Wales goalkeeping legend Neville Southall.
