Gillingham sign Chatham prospect

Thursday 22nd November 2007

Gillingham have signed Ryan Benniman from their Ryman League Division One South neighbours Chatham Town, writes Stephen McCartney.

"Another outstanding prospect from the Chatham Town youth teams has had his ability recognised by Gilingham and following a few weeks of trials for them, has been rewarded with a two-year-contract, says Gary Hawker.

Chatham Town’s youth development manager, speaking to www.chathamtownfc.net , added: “I have known Ryan for a number of years now and like several of our current under fifteen’s, he had been playing at under 16 level for several months.

“A bright prospect who I know will give 110% to make the most of his opportunity with Gillingham.”

Meanwhile, youngsters Michael Scott and Ryan Wood have both been selected for the Kent Youth League representative side.

“Trials were held earlier in the season and from over 120 players, both of the lads were selected,” said Hawker.

“I am proud of their achievement and also the excellent attitude both have displayed when representing Chatham Town.

“I understand Scotty was also made captain of the team. Well done to both of you.”

Chatham Town, without a game on Saturday, before they travel to Whitstable Town on Saturday, 1st December, would like to hear from their League One neighbours as they'd be extremely grateful to play a pre-season friendly as compensation for this transfer, and the one that took Frannie Collin (whose now playing for Dover Athletic) to Priestfield Stadium a few years ago.
