GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says January will be the month that makes or breaks his team.

The Foxes suffered a blow to their promotion push when they went down to a 5-2 defeat at Erith & Belvedere on 28 December and are in seventh-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 27 points from their 17 league games.

Beckenham Town remain at the summit and have collected 46 points from their 19 league outings and their assistant manager Billy Walton insists his side can handle the pressure of being involved in a title race.

Glebe welcome tenth-placed Canterbury City to Foxbury Avenue tomorrow, a side under new management after Clive Cook and his entire squad walked out when the playing budget was cut by 80%.

“We take on Canterbury, who have had a tough time off-the-pitch but we’re expecting a tough game against a young and hungry team so we have to make sure we up our performance from last week,” said Alexander.

“We were outplayed and out-worked by a young and hungry Erith & Belvedere side, which is not the standards we expect so hopefully tomorrow we get a response.”

Glebe travel to Stowmarket Town in the last 32 of The FA Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday 11 January as well as hosting First Division side Rusthall in the Challenge Cup Third Round (14 January) and a Kent Senior Trophy Quarter-Final tie at Beckenham Town four days later.

“January is a massive month for us with three cup competitions and league games against some of the top sides,” said Alexander.

“Come the end of the month we will know where we are at and what competitions we have a real chance in so starting tomorrow we need a big performance.

“I have a group of lads that on their day are capable of beating anyone at these levels but it’s time we stepped up and showed this by being more consistent week-in-week-out.”

Jamie Philpott is Glebe’s leading goalscorer with 17 goals this season, meanwhile former Canterbury City's striker Dean Grant was seen watching the Isthmian League South East Division game between Herne Bay and Whitstable Town on New Years Day.
