Glebe want to go into higher divisions and I want to be part of it, says talisman striker Jamie Philpot
GLEBE chairman Rocky McMillan has tied down the clubs biggest asset.
Striker Jamie Philpot, 25, has committed himself to the Chislehurst-based club for at least the end of the season, after attracting offers from higher-league clubs.
“Jamie has been outstanding this season with 23 competitive goals to date,” said McMillan.
“I’m delighted that despite many offers from higher league clubs, he is staying and will be a massive player in our quest for promotion.”
Philpot is in his third season at Foxbury Avenue, having been snapped up by then manager Gary Alexander and has scored 51 goals in all competitions for the club.
“I’m delighted to commit to Glebe until at least the end of the season,” added Philpot.
“I enjoy a great relationship with Rocky and his wife Grace, the directors, fans, team mates and really enjoy working with the manager and the coaching staff.
“Glebe want to go into higher divisions and things are continually improving at Foxbury and I want to be part of it.”
Philpot made 12 first-team appearances for Millwall, scoring once, during his three seasons at the Den between 2014-17.
He then dropped down into non-league football and played for Bromley, Woking, Welling United (all on loan), before signing permanently for Dartford, Maidstone United, Bromley, Barrow and Staines Town before Alexander brought him to Glebe in 2019.
Harry Hudson’s side are currently in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 32 points from 13 league games.
Unbeaten Sheppey United are top of the table with 34 points from 12 games, while Chatham Town have climbed up to second with 33 points from 13 games.
All three clubs are expected to be fighting out for promotion come the end of the season and Glebe’s chances have been enhanced with talisman Philpot staying put.
Glebe welcome eleventh-placed side Fisher to Foxbury Avenue on Saturday (15:00).
