Glebe appoint Gary Alexander as their new manager: It was clear to everybody that we have found the right person for the role

Friday 06th September 2019

GLEBE chairman Rocky McMillan has appointed Gary Alexander as their new manager.

The 40-year-old former Millwall star has previously managed Greenwich Borough and Ashford United and has been scouting for the Lions since he was controversially sacked by text message by the Nuts & Bolts on Saturday 24 November 2018.

Alexander twas in charge of 18 league and cup games in total for Isthmian League South East Division side Ashford United, winning six of them and losing eight.

Peter Sweeney stepped down as Glebe’s manager on Monday 2 September 2019 after only 23 games in charge of the Chislehurst based club.

“The board of directors are delighted to announce that Gary Alexander has accepted the first team managers job,” said Mr McMillan.

“Gary has experienced a wonderful playing career, processes great knowledge of the game and has superb contacts.

“It was our intention to hold the post open until Monday but on meeting and interviewing Gary, it was clear to everybody that we have found the right person for the managers role.”

Alexander said: “Buzzing tonight to accept the role of manager at Glebe.  I’m back in the game and I can’t wait to get started. It’s been a while but nothing beats being in a dressing room.”

Glebe, who welcome fourth-placed Bearsted to Foxbury Avenue tomorrow, sit in eleventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, with six points (two wins) from their four games.

Glebe are six points adrift of leaders Tunbridge Wells, whom have a 100% record from their opening four games.

Sweeney played under Alexander when the pair were at Greenwich Borough together.
