It’s never easy having to say goodbye to players but we all know it’s reality at this level so re-building begins having released five players, says Glebe boss Gary Alexander
GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says he has released five players due to a budget cut having admitted his side are now out of the promotion picture.
The Chislehurst-based club are now in thirteenth-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table having lost six points after Greenwich Borough’s withdrawal from the division.
Glebe have now 24 points on the board from their 17 league games, 23 points adrift of leaders Beckenham Town.
Alexander takes his side to Erith Town tomorrow, a side that are a couple of places lower in the table with 22 points from their 20 league outings.
The Dockers, though, have reached the London Senior Cup Semi-Finals where they will play the winner of the Quarter-Final tie between AFC Wimbledon and Brentford B.
Brentford B reached the Final last season but lost 1-0 to Welling United in what was Steve King’s only season in charge at Park View Road.
“Tomorrow we face Erith Town in the league, a game both teams will want to win, having dropped down the table, having lost six points recently,” said Alexander.
“We played them earlier in the season in the London Senior Cup with Erith Town coming out victorious on that day.
“Erith Town are a solid team with some real experience and quality so it will be a tough game, like every week.”
Glebe went down to a 3-1 defeat at Fisher last weekend, which ended their slender promotion charge.
“We were the better footballing side but lacked the passion and desire they showed, probably putting to an end to any hope we had of challenging the top teams,” admitted Alexander, who has lost players owing to a budget cut.
“Things have changed this week. It’s never easy having to say goodbye to players but we all know it’s reality at this level so re-building begins having released five players.
“We have replaced with quality and will continue to do so hoping to form a squad that is capable of competing next year, so we look forward to the games ahead and trying to win as many as possible between now and the end of the season.”
