At this stage of the season you want to be playing in big games, says Glebe boss Gary Alexander
GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says he wants his players to be clinical in front of goal against Beckenham Town tomorrow.
The Foxes were dumped out of The Buildbase FA Vase in the last 32 by a clinical Stowmarket Town last weekend and Alexander takes his side to Eden Park Avenue in the Kent Senior Trophy Quarter-Finals looking to cause an upset.
Beckenham Town remain at the top of the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 47 points from their 21 games and they have Sheppey United and Corinthian (43 points) and Chatham Town (40 points) in hot pursuit.
Glebe, meanwhile, are in seventh-place in the table with 30 points from their 18 league outings but all attention turns to tomorrow’s local derby with a place in the Semi-Finals up for grabs.
“Tomorrow’s game sees us play in yet another cup competition after last week’s FA Vase game,” said Alexander.
“We now face tough opposition in Beckenham, who have started the season so well and it’s no fluke when you’re top of a table after Christmas.
“It’s another opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best teams in our league with some top players, some of whom I know personally and some I have come across during my time.
“It’s a good club with good people. I always look forward to playing and seeing (manager) Jason Huntley and (secretary) Peter Palmer, two people I respect and get along with well.
“I’m sure we’re in for a cracking game and if we can put a performance in like we did last week, only being more clinical in front of goal then I’m sure we will be a match for Beckenham.
“At this stage of the season you want to be playing in big games and that’s what tomorrow is, a Quarter-Final of a cup and you’re not a million miles away from a potential final so we will go there and give it our best and see where it takes us on the day, hopefully into the Semi-Final and the scalp of arguably the league favourites.”
Alexander added: “We want to bounce back as soon as possible after last week’s disappointment.”
