Saturday 04th June 2011
KENT based goalkeeper Scott Chalmers-Stevens says he is giving teenagers a chance to join a Scholarship scheme at his Soccer Academy, writes Stephen McCartney.

Chalmers-Stevens, 25 this month, is the academy director of Kent based Pro Soccer Academy, which has some familiar names as coaches, including Dover Athletic pair Adam Birchall and Barry Cogan and Lordswood's Richard Styles.

Chalmers-Stevens is a former Kent Schools keeper, who enjoyed a brief spell at Watford, before joining Rushden & Diamonds as a junior, only to be released at the end of the 2004-05 season.

A short stint at Mansfield Town followed by a move to Ashford Town (Middlesex) in October 2005, before a more permanent switch to Margate ensued at the start of the 2005-06 campaign.  After three seasons at Hartsdown Park, he moved to Ashford Town (Kent), but injury kept him out for much of the 2009/10 season and a return to fitness led him to joining Hastings United in August 2010, but he moved to their  Ryman Premier League rivals, Cray Wanderers in March of this year.

"We work in Maidstone and Medway coaching boys in Year 1-Year 12," explaineed Chalmers-Stevens.

"We run our Academy at Greenacre School, Walderslade on a Monday and Friday training on a weekly basis and playing friendly matches against pro-sides such as Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

"We recently have been given the all clear to start a Scholarship programme at Wrotham School this September and we will be running trials in the next couple of weeks.

"There will be a number of boys who may have wanted to join a programme like ours attending trials at Dartford, Ebbsfleet United and Maidstone United and there will be a lot of boys who did not get selected that may be interested."

The Pro Soccer Academy will now be running a Football Scholarship programme this September at Wrotham School for Current Year 11's (Year 12 from September).

This unique course will see players studying a BTEC Sport Level 3 in Sport & Science as well as training full-time with the Pro Soccer Team.

“This will be a great opportunity for any player wishing to gain a great education while experiencing the buzz of full-time football,” explained Chalmers-Stevens.

“Players will train like a professional each day as well as playing games against other schools and professional club's while gaining 3 A Levels at the same time.”

There are limited places available for this unique course and there will be trails in the next two weeks.
