We have had a big turnaround in players so will be down to them to rise to the challenge of the season ahead, says Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander

GREENWICH BOROUGH boss Gary Alexander has challenged his new-look side to smash the 95 points target this season.

 

The Eltham based club finished their debut campaign in third-place but were defeated 4-3 at home to surprise package Corinthian-Casuals in the play-off semi-final, who then lost on penalties at runners-up Dorking Wanderers, who sealed promotion along with champions Tooting & Mitcham United.


Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander guided the club to a third-place finish in what proved to be the last Ryman League campaign after their 20-year sponsorship of the Isthmian League came to an end.

The Bostik South Division is going to be another tough one this time around, especially as 20 of the 46 games will be Kent derbies.

Greenwich Borough open their campaign on Saturday with a home game against Whyteleafe.

“Looking forward to the start of the season, as I’m sure everyone is and welcoming Whytleafe for which I’m sure will be a cracking opening game,” said Alexander.

“We have had a big turnaround in players so will be down to them to rise to the challenge of the season ahead.

“I have some real hungry talent in my dressing room and hopefully they can do what they do best, play football.

“We have had a tough pre-season and now the real work begins to try and improve and move forward.  To get 95 points in any League is tough so to match or improve on that we will have to be at our very best week in week out as there are some real quality teams and individuals in this league as we have seen with three making steps up to the Football League.”

Mohamed Eisa has hit form with his new club Cheltenham Town since leaving Greenwich Borough in the summer and has scored three goals in his first two games for the League Two club.

Alfie May left Hythe Town at the turn of the year to sign for Doncaster Rovers, winning promotion into League One last season, while Brandon Scott has left Cray Wanderers this summer to sign for League One Bristol Rovers.

Alexander added: “There are plenty more around, not only in my dressing room but in other teams too, so I look forward to the season and the challenges ahead. Best of luck to everyone, enjoy the season.”
