Greenwich Borough resign from the Southern Counties East Football League
GREENWICH BOROUGH have resigned from the Southern Counties East Football League today.
“Due to the severe business interruption, Greenwich Borough FC will not be participating in the League from today,” said a club statement.
“We are not closing the business but just withdrawing from the competition.
“The club are not leaving for financial issues.”
Greenwich Borough were sitting at the bottom of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 12 points (three wins and three draws) from their 20 league games.
A League statement added: “It is with reluctance that the Southern Counties East Football League have today accepted the resignation of Greenwich Borough FC from the League with immediate effect.
“The Board will meet quickly to determine next steps and further updates will be made as and when necessary.”
The club said on their Twitter account on 17 January 2020 that they “have faced challenging times from the unlawful eviction in 2018-19 to picking up momentum into the new season 2019-20.”
The clubs board issued a statement the following day on their website, warning that they had no chance to survive.
Greenwich Borough have spent the first part of this season groundsharing at Isthmian League South East Division club Phoenix Sports and had to pay their rent money in full and up front when the deal was struck in May 2019.
