I want to improve every season, says Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander

GREENWICH BOROUGH manager Gary Alexander says he is searching for improvement this season.

The club finished in third-place in the Isthmian League Division One South table last season, collecting an impressive 95 points from their 46 league outings in their debut campaign at that level.

However, Tooting & Mitcham United celebrated winning the league title on 105 points, finishing level on points with runners-up Dorking Wanderers, who held their nerve to beat Corinthian-Casuals on penalties after the play-off final was locked at 0-0 after 120 minutes of football.

Corinthian-Casuals came away from Greenwich Borough by winning a seven-goal thriller in the semi-finals, leaving Alexander to plot a successful campaign this time out.

“From where we came from where the club’s been,  to get 95 points last season, I think is a fantastic achievement from all of the boys,” said Alexander.

“I’ve had quite a big turnaround this year and hopefully, again, we can show how good we can be but we have to be more consistent on a more consistent basis.  If we’re that, I’m sure we can compete.

“We got 95 points, being the winners we are, we aim to improve on that.  We always want to be improving so it’s going to be a big task to get 95 points again. It’s a tough task but that’s certainly what we’ll be starting at to see where it takes us.

“It’s a long season, there’s going to be some good sides in there, there’s some very good players so we’re not going to disrespect anyone. We’re going to take every one the same as we prepare for any game and go from there and see where we end up again.

“I’d love to improve on 95 points. I’m not saying it’s going to happen but it’s not an improvement for me if we don’t reach 95 points.

“I want to improve every season, so I’ve got to have mentality in there, the team I had last year competed and made 95 points. I can’t fault any of them but you have had changes and we’ll certainly be setting that as a bard and that we want to hit that bar again and if not go better.”

One player that Alexander has lost is attacker Mohamed Eisa, who has got his professional career off to a flying start by scoring five goals in pre-season for Sky Bet League Two side Cheltenham Town.

“Different class for Mo, everyone at the club was over the moon.  He’s been here and scored goals for the last two or three years and he’s been brilliant for us and it’s good for this club that we can get one out to go and join the Football League.

“I’ve got confident in Mo that he can score some goals and hopefully he can step-up and produce a few goals in the League season and that will be great for Mo and will be great for this club.”

Greenwich Borough’s next home game is against newly-promoted Championship side Millwall on Friday, 28 July (19:45).

They begin their Bostik South campaign with a home game against Whyteleafe on Saturday, 12 August (15:00).
