Greenwich Borough and Fisher cast their eyes on new faces

Wednesday 01st July 2009
GREENWICH BOROUGH boss Steve Firkins is casting his eye on some new faces ahead of the new season, writes Stephen McCartney.

But midfielder Kevin Sefaah is currently on trial at former Football League club Luton Town, who are preparing for their inaugural Blue Square South campaign, following relegation.

“There’s not a lot of changes with the squad for this season,” Firkins told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“Nearly all who played last year are back with us so far, except for Kevin Sefaah, who is currently on trial at Luton Town.

“Robert McCarthy is working abroad until September/October and three or four with injuries, who are being given re-hab programmes by our physio, Eddie Clintworth, who is working hard to get them fit for the start of the season.”

Firkins, whose side will be playing at Holmesdale’s Oakley Road for the next three seasons added, “We have had a few fresh faces to the squad over the last couple of weeks, who look as if they could come in and do a job for us.

“Two of them have had limited opportunities with their previous clubs, Darren Nash and Robert Dabner have some Kent League experience.

“Donovan Burton, who was at Barnet up until he was eighteen when he was released, but has not had a lot of football since then, and Kobi Johnson, who was a valuable member of my successful Croydon Athletic under 18 side a few years ago, who has been away at university for the past couple of seasons.”

Meanwhile, newly formed Fisher are looking to strengthen their squad for their inaugural Kent League campaign.

Open trials are taking place next Wednesday, 8th July at 6:30pm and will be held at Dulwich Hamlet FC.

The south London side, managed by Gary Lisney, hope to build a competitive side for the new term, and are looking for players who want to be apart from the start.
