Greenwich Borough begin search for a new boss after John Cumberbatch leaves

GREENWICH BOROUGH begin the search for a new manager after John Cumberbatch left the club today.

The club moved out of their Harrow Meadow ground in Eltham before embarking on a three-year groundshare deal at Holmesdale’s Oakley Road ground, where they struggled to attract a fan-base.

But Greenwich Borough shocked the Kent football family when they announced a groundshare deal to play at Skrill (Conference) Premier club Dartford at Princes Park after new people came into the club during last summer.

Greenwich Borough broke their record transfer record by signing striker Stuart Zanone, 28, from Ryman League Division One North leaders VCD Athletic for an undisclosed transfer fee on 27 December 2013.

The club are presently sitting in ninth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League table with 20 points from 14 games, 16 points adrift of league leaders Ashford United, despite applying for promotion to the Ryman League.

A statement issued by the club on their website said: “Due to the pressure of work and family commitments, John Cumberbatch has had to relinquish his role as manager of Greenwich Borough.

“The club would like to take this opportunity to thank John for his hard work and dedication during his time with the club and would like to wish him every success in the future.”

Greenwich Borough did not, however, announce Cumberbatch’s replacement or their plans of finding a new manager ahead of their trip to Deal Town in the League on Saturday.

Aaron Perry, 30, meanwhile, says he is searching for a new club after leaving Kent County League Division One West side Milton & Fulston United in August 2013.

Perry, who lives in Sittingbourne and runs his own coaching business and also works at a primary school in Maidstone, said: “I left Milton due to things not working out how I wanted. They pulled out (of the Kent County League) as I believe the whole club is having a restructure.

“I’m looking for a role in the Kent County Premier or higher.  I’m keen to get back and chomping at the bit for a chance to prove myself at a good level.

“I’ve been watching games since August so my knowledge of Kent football is really high still and having spoken to my contacts at professional clubs as well they are keen to support me and provide players’ on loan deals etc, as budgets are always tight.

“I’ve had time out and been watching a lot of games and also been with Reading doing scouting etc.

“I’m due to be a dad at the end of the month then I’m ready for a new and exciting challenge. I miss being around the dressing room and training grounds with the players.

“I can offer a high level experience and also high quality back room staff and a good quality player database.”

Perry has experience of Ryman League football during his time with Margate, Ramsgate and Sittingbourne.

He said: “I’m willing to listen to any management/assistant manager’s role having coached and been assistant manager in Ryman League football and manager in the Kent County. I’m ready for the next challenge.”
