Haworth is our man insists Dartford boss

DARTFORD manager Tony Burman feels their Ryman Premier League rivals Wealdstone have committed "the cardinal sin" concerning striker Rob Haworth, writes Stephen McCartney.

Wealdstone announced that they had signed the former Margate striker seven days ago – when it fact the 32-year-old did not put pen to paper.

Haworth, who made 29 first team appearances for Fulham between 1993-1995, actually signed for the Darts yesterday, leaving Wealdstone with egg on their faces.

Burman, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk at lunchtime today, explained the situation.

He said: "Well, the story is that Rob had spoke to Wealdstone and he was speaking to us.

"He spoke to them on the phone but hadn’t signed for them and for some reason Wealdstone sort of announced that he had signed – you don’t do that sort of thing, you see.

"In the Non-League Paper they’ve said Rob’s signed but you don't believe what you read in papers or on websites sometimes.

"They’ve announced he’s signed and they haven’t signed him. It’s the cardinal sin to be perfectly honest with you."

Dartford will be Haworth’s fourteenth club of his career, and Burman is delighted to have brought him to Princes Park.

"We’ve been looking at a number of players and I made an enquiry about Rob and he fitted the bill what I was looking for in respect of his attitude and things like that is good," he said.

"Yes, I know he’s 32 but when you speak to people he’s a good player and you see a player alongside him has always finished up being one of the highest goalscorers as well.

"He’s got a bit of experience for us up front, which again puts competition up front for us."

Burman, meanwhile, updated fans on the latest situation concerning 22-year-old striker Jay May - but didn't want to reveal which clubs are interested in the former Tonbridge Angels striker.

"Jay May has been made a good offer from the club to stay with us," revealed Burman.

"He wants to play at a higher level, which is a good thing, and he is talking to one or two clubs in higher league’s at this moment in time."
