There's an element of unfinished business for me at Herne Bay, says Sam Bewick

HERNE BAY manager Ben Smith has unveiled the return of midfielder Sam Bewick from Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Corinthian.

 

Bewick has previously played for Faversham Town, where he finished as their top scorer from the middle of the park with 17 goals.

The former Queens Park Rangers Academy player has also worked under current assistant manager Tim Dixon and head coach Darren Beale when they were at Hythe Town together.

Bewick becomes the second player to leave Gay Dawn Farm this summer, as Jack Healy signed for Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division big-hitters Chatham Town.

Corinthian are yet to play Hebburn Town in The FA Vase Semi-Final, so both players could miss out on playing on the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium.

“Thrilled to be back with The Bay,” Bewick told Herne Bay’s website.

“I feel there’s an element of unfinished business in the league and at the club for me.

“I’ve added a few goals to my game over the last few years so hopefully, I can bring that with me along with plenty of energy in the middle of the park.

“From speaking to the gaffer, he filled me with so much evidence that he knows how to get the best out of me this season and you’ve just got to see the squad he has assembled this season so far, it was a no brainer for me.

“Can’t wait to get going now, hopefully, we aren’t waiting too long.”

Smith added: “Pleased to have Sam with us at The Bay. He’s a player that is hated by the opposition, which I have had plenty of experience of in the past.

“After showing some fantastic form last season was tough for me with his injury problems but his recovery has gone really well and he’s looking extremely fit at the moment and probably ahead of where I expected him to be, which bodes well.

“Versatility and energy going both ways on the pitch are two ingredients that we need in our squad going forward and if we can keep Sam fit and healthy then he has these in abundance.”
