HERNE BAY chairman Matt Barman says he has parted company with manager James Collins, who has been in charge for only 12 games.

“After a tumultuous start of the season, we found ourselves being drawn into a relegation battle,” said Mr Barman.

“James was appointed with the remit to keep our club in the Isthmian League South East Division.

“We thank James wholeheartedly for doing just that and wish him nothing but the best for the future.”

Collins, who won four, drawn three and lost five of his games in charge at Winch’s Field, added: “I was asked to do a job at Herne Bay and I have done so.  I’m thrilled to have delivered on the expectations.

“Herne Bay is a massive club with one of the best fan bases I’ve ever had privilege to be involved with and I wish them nothing but success going forwards.”

The club, who published their statement on social media – bring back the days of using club websites – complete their campaign with a trip to relegated side Steyning Town Community tomorrow.

Herne Bay sit in sixteenth-place in the table (bottom seven) having picked up 45 points, having collected 12 wins, nine draws and 20 defeats this season.

Darren Anslow – the manager of Phoenix Sports – has finished beneath the relegation line for the second successive season, having suffered the same fate with Beckenham Town last April – having picked up 35 points from their 41 games.

Also relegated are Steyning Town Community (23 points) after only one season at this level – and Hythe Town (22) and Lancing (22) also drop.
