Herne Bay boss Sam Denly continues to build his squad

HERNE BAY boss Sam Denly has moved to sign two players, eight days before they kick-off their second Ryman League Division One South campaign.The Bay welcome newly-promoted side Guernsey to Winch’s Field on 10 August (1:00pm) on the opening day of the new season. The Channel Island’s outfit take their place in the Ryman League for the first time after securing back-to-back promotions in their first two years’ of playing in the English pyramid system.
Denly has moved to sign former Gillingham and Ebbsfleet United winger Kane Phillip, after impressing during last night’s 2-0 win over tenants Canterbury City.
Denly told the club website: “Kane has impressed while being on trial at the club over the last few weeks and I have signed him following a very impressive performance against Canterbury City last night.”
Denly added: “Kane has a lot of speed and ability and will bring more attacking options to the squad.”
Denly has also signed former Dover Athletic defender Tom Axford.
Axford signed a contract with The Skrill South (Conference South) club Dover Athletic in May 2012, following impressive performances for the club’s Academy and England Schoolboys.
He is comfortable at right-back and in central midfield and possesses good technical and passing ability.
Axford represented both England Schoolboys and Kent Schools in 2012 before signing a contract at Crabble. He also featured for Dover’s first team in the Kent Senior Cup and has had loan spells at local Kent clubs.
Denly added: “Tom has also impressed during pre-season with some very good performances so I was very pleased to be able to sign him today, as I continue to build by squad.”
Meanwhile, Kent Invicta League club Lewisham Borough welcome The Skrill South (Conference South) neighbours Bromley to Ladywell Arena tonight (7:30pm) – and Herne Bay on Sunday (2:30pm) – to mark the club’s tenth anniversary.
