Herne Bay chairman Trevor Kennett axes boss Simon Halsey

HERNE BAY chairman Trevor Kennett has explained why he parted company with manager Simon Halsey last night.



The Bay suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Corinthian-Casuals at Winch’s Field, which keeps the club sitting in fifteenth-place in their inaugural Ryman League Division One South campaign with 43 points.

Goalkeeper coach Anthony Deer, who has also had a successful first campaign running the club’s ladies’ side, will take temporary charge for their last three league games, at home to league leaders Dulwich Hamlet tomorrow, at Walton & Hersham next Tuesday, followed by the trip to Folkestone Invicta on 27 April.

Halsey guided the club to the FA Carlsberg Vase semi-finals and the Kent League title last season after celebrating back-to-back Kent League Cup Final wins during his successful reign at Winch’s Field.

“Following last night’s defeat and after discussing our current performances with the directors of the club, I decided to relieve Simon of his first team duties as manager,” said Mr Kennett.

“It is a sad day for everyone at the club, clearly Simon is disappointed.  However, I believe that it is the right decision.

“I would like to thank Simon for all that he has done for the club over the past seasons and wish him well in the future.

“What is important now is to move the club forward by trying to raise our performances over the last three games of the season and to build for next season.

“I have asked Anthony Deer to look after first team duties for our last three games of the season and the search for a new manager to lead us forward next season starts now.”
