HERNE BAY are pleased to announce that Winch’s Field will welcome Gillingham Ladies later in the month.

Gillingham Ladies are the top Ladies team in Kent, playing in the FA Women’s Premier League (South) and they arrive at Winch’s Field on Tuesday 27th November (7:45pm) to compete in the Ryman Women’s Cup Second Round.

Manager Anthony Deer is pleased with the progress made by his side, who were formed during the summer.

“I’m delighted with the progress our ladies team has made in its first season in the Kent Division of the South East Counties Women’s League,” said Deer.

“The team has won nine out of nine in the league and although the Gills Ladies play several divisions higher than us, everyone is looking forward to the game.”

Herne Bay’s Ladies side play their home games at Bell Meadow, St Nicholas-at-Wade, because of the amount of football played at Winch’s Field, which also hosts Canterbury City’s home games, but club chairman Trevor Kennett is looking forward to playing the match at the club’s stadium.

He said: “Herne Bay Football Club has been going from strength to strength in recent times and the successful introduction of the Ladies team is the next chapter in the Herne Bay FC success story.

“This will be a great night at Winch’s Field and a chance for the people of Herne Bay to see some top Ladies football players in action.

“The women’s game in this country is growing and Herne Bay FC, as a community football club, is very pleased to be part of it.”

Meanwhile, Herne Bay’s men face their Kent rivals Folkestone Invicta at Winch’s Field on Saturday and the club would like to remind supporters that the kick-off has been brought forward to 1pm.

Mr Kennett, who watched Hollands & Blair’s Kent Senior Cup epic with Ramsgate on Tuesday night, revealed that 30 supporters turned up at the ground at Stanley Gardens for a three o’clock kick-off for last week’s game against Worthing, which saw the Sussex side come away with a 4-1 victory following a 1pm kick-off.
