Hessenthaler makes changes for League Cup clash - EXCLUSIVE

Sunday 30th September 2007

Andy Hessenthaler has revealed that he’s going to make wholesale changes to his side when Dover Athletic welcome Eastbourne Town in the Ryman League Cup tomorrow night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Whites player-boss was part of the side that were dumped out of the FA Cup yesterday, losing a second qualifying round tie 2-1 at Kent League side Hythe Town.

Dover Athletic had beaten Eastbourne Town away last Wednesday night, but Hessenthaler will be making changes for the League Cup clash.

“We’re going to rest quite a few players in that,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“They’ll be a number of changes from today’s team. We see it as a run out for some of the players that haven’t been getting minutes under their legs.

“But there will be some changes, quite a lot on Monday and then we’ll gear ourselves for the FA Trophy game.”

Potters Bar Town visit the Crabble Sea France Stadium next Saturday.

But Hessenthaler was full of praise for Hythe Town yesterday, a side that contained many former Dover Athletic, Folkestone Invicta and Ashford Town players in their ranks.

“They’re always going to be up for the game, it’s the FA Cup,” he said.

“It’s against a team higher in the division and it’s a team they used to play for, so it’s always going to raise their game a little bit.

“But credit to them, I’m not going to take anything away from them, they certainly play to their strengths down here, a tricky pitch, it didn’t suit us.

“We couldn’t come to terms with it and they did. You have to take it on the chin and they deserved to win in the end.”
