There’s absolutely no pressure on us at all and we’ll go into it with our own ideas within the changing room, says Hollands & Blair boss Bryan Greenfield

HOLLANDS & BLAIR’S opening pre-season game away to Whitstable Bay on Saturday has been postponed in embarrassing fashion.

It was to be Canterbury & District League Premier side Whitstable Bay’s first ever game.

“Saturday’s game has been postponed due to delay in pitch completion,” said a statement from the red-faced home club.

“Our fixture against Hollands & Blair has had to be postponed due to a delay in delivery of our new goals and dugouts.

“Our apologies to Hollands & Blair and supporters from both club's.”

Hollands & Blair manager Bryan Greenfield said that he was going to bring a large squad down to play the game at Reeves Way.

“We have had one session on Tuesday night, which was very well attended by both first, reserves and under 18 players, plus a few trailists,” said Greenfield, who guided the Gillingham based club to a top-eight finish in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division in his first season in charge.

Greenfield said he is keen to give younger players a chance to impress him during pre-season.

“I want to have a look at a few of the trialists and younger players that we have within the under 18 and reserve team for the upcoming season,” said Greenfield.

“Some of the younger players impressed last season with a few of them making the break into the first team towards the end of the season and I am keen to see that development continue moving forward, both with the players themselves and the club in general.”

Greenfield was asked what his aspirations are for the season ahead.

“Just the usual really for a club like Blair.  There’s absolutely no pressure on us at all and we’ll go into it with our own ideas within the changing room of where we want and expect to finish and we’ll see where that takes us through the year.

“One thing we would like to put right this year is a decent showing in the Cups. We did well in The FA Cup last year but our performances in both The FA Vase and league cup were well below par so we’ll hopefully put that right this year.”

Blair are next in action when Bostik North side Romford visit Darland Avenue on Wednesday 12 July.
