Holmesdale committed to fulfilling our fixtures for this season and beyond - club statement
Monday 30th November 2009
CRISIS CLUB Holmesdale have apologised to their opponents for the shocking behaviour of their rebel players at the weekend, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Bromley based club have issued a statement tonight, following the controversial events of Saturday when their players walked out on the club following a vote amongst themselves on the pitch to forfeit the Bulmers Cider Kent League home game against Deal Town.
An anonymous “player” revealed on Saturday afternoon that players had not been paid for two months -and it became clear yesterday that manager Billy Hughes has also quit, although both he and the club statement remain tight-lipped over the reasons why
An unnamed investor even took the furnishings, that he paid for, from the clubhouse.
“It is with utmost regret that Holmesdale Football Club can confirm that Saturday's Bulmer's Kent League home game against Deal Town was postponed,” said the statement, issued on the club’s website www.holmesdalefc.co.uk.
“This was due to last minute player withdrawals and therefore being unable to field an eligible team. This was out of the control of the Club's Committee and totally against the ethics of the Football Club.
“Holmesdale Football Club wish to extend their sincerest apologises to the players, management, officials and supporters of Deal Town Football Club as well as the game officials for the unacceptable late postponement and the obvious inconvenience caused.
“Holmesdale Football Club do not wish to make any further comment with regard to an internal club matter, other than to confirm that it is committed to fulfilling all it's 2009/10 fixtures and beyond.”
With speculation rife, the Oakley Road club have not yet officially named their new management team.
