Holmesdale walked out and forfeited game - claims anonymous Holmesdale “player”

Saturday 28th November 2009
A HOLMESDALE player, who would like to remain anonymous, has explained why the club’s Bulmers Cider Kent League game against Deal Town did NOT go ahead today, writes Stephen McCartney.

The match was scheduled for a 2 o’clock kick-off, due to the floodlights at Oakley Road “being out of order”, but www.kentishfootball.co.uk  received a telephone call from a withheld number at about twenty-past-two, claiming that Holmesdale’s players "walked out and forfeited the game."

Although no official club statement has been published by the Bromley based club on it’s club website this evening, we publish the transcript of our telephone conversation with the “player” on today’s alleged events.

He said: “Have you heard what’s gone on today, the game with Deal?

“Well, basically all the (Holmesdale) players have forfeited the game. The squad has forfeited the game and walked out on the club.

“Is Billy Hughes still the manager?  He isn’t anymore, no, and all the players have left as well!”

When asked when did they do that?” the mystery caller, who obviously didn’t want to be identified replied, “Today, before the kick-off.  It was brought forward for a 2 o’clock kick-off, but the players had a meeting on the pitch at about a quarter-past-one and decided that they weren’t going to play for a number of reasons.

“They’ve not been paid for two months.  There was a backer willing to invest a lot of money within the club, of which the players had a meeting on Tuesday night before training and were promised that there was a meeting going to be held between the investor and the two owners of the club.

“That’s not happened after being promised, so all the players, along with other reasons, have decide to walk out and leave, forfeiting  today’s game.”

He added: “Before the game as well the furnishings have been taken out the clubhouse, which the investor paid for.”

When asked his name, our mystery caller replied, “I’d like to remain anonymous, but I’m from the Holmesdale camp, the squad.”
