Huntley set for Healy showdown talks
Thursday 11th March 2010
BECKENHAM TOWN boss Jason Huntley says he is already planning for next season, writes Stephen McCartney.
Huntley has turned around the club’s fortunes in a year, taking the club from third-from-bottom last season to fifth this.
The Eden Park Avenue outfit are just 90 minutes away from contesting the Bulmers Cider Kent League Cup final as they came away from third-placed Sevenoaks Town with a 2-2 first-leg draw as strikers Anthony Weir (penalty) and Gary Gorman got on the score sheet again.
Waiting on the sidelines are former Margate striker Joe Healy, who missed the game at Sevenoaks Town through work commitments, the main reason why his contract was terminated at Ryman Premier League club Margate, Rikki Cable (a recent signing from Thamesmead Town) and his brother Ross, who turns out for Beckenham’s reserves.
“I want to keep the majority of the players that we’ve got,” Huntley told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“I’ll start speaking to them in the next couple of weeks and I want an additional three players.
“We’ve just signed Joe Healy back on. He’s a good player, whether or not he’ll be with us next season, whether or not he’ll see the rest of the season out I’m not sure. I have to sit down with him but he’s a really quality player and we want to add two or three players and I think we’ll have a strong enough squad.”
Huntley takes his side to Corinthian, a young side that are struggling in the bottom three in their first season back playing Kent League football.
“They’re starting to get a few results, they’re a young side and I don’t mind that,” said Huntley.
“They all want to play together and win together. They battle for each other, they work hard for ninety minutes.
“It won’t be no easy game for us, rest assured on that. I’ve told the lads who weren’t playing there will be five changes to my team on Saturday so those boys (on the bench at Sevenoaks) will be getting a run out on Saturday.
Beckenham then travel to Sporting Bengal United next Wednesday before welcoming Norton Sports to Eden Park Avenue the following weekend, before welcoming Sevenoaks for the second-leg on Tuesday 23rd March.
“The games are coming thick and fast and our aim is still to finish in the top three in the league, which is a 1000% better than what we done last season,” added Huntley.
