A team will be on the end of a big defeat from us soon, warns Hythe Town coach Will Graham
HYTHE TOWN coach Will Graham says the club are not setting a play-off target.
The Cannons have climbed the Ryman League Division One South table in recent weeks and are sitting in fifteenth-place with 29 points from 21 games.
Clive Cook’s side are 12 points adrift of fifth-placed Faversham Town, who they play at Reachfields Stadium tomorrow and 11 points clear of the relegation zone, occupied by Sittingbourne, Chipstead and Whitstable Town.
Looking forward to the game against Ray Turner’s Faversham Town, Graham said: “We have had a similar season, both started poor and have hit a great run of form, which has seen us both push up the table.
“Ray and Clive (Walker) at Faversham are top managers and there is no reason why you would say they won’t be in and around the play-offs come the end of the season.
“However, we are on a great run of form at the moment and I’d back us to beat anyone.”
Since Tim Dixon parted company with the club, Hythe Town have won eight of their last 13 games and came away from struggling Sittingbourne with a 2-0 win last Saturday, courtesy of two goals from striker Frankie Sawyer, who has now scored eight goals for the club.
“Against Sittingbourne was a real battle on a heavy pitch against a team fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table,” said Graham.
“Nick (Davis) set his team up to frustrate us and put men behind the ball and were even time wasting within the first 20 minutes of the game!
“The lads did not let it affect our game plan and we still played some great football and again came away thinking we should have won by four or five.
“We (Cook, Mark Lane and I) have all said that a team soon is going to be on the end of a big defeat from us because we create so many chances, just haven’t had the rub of the green.
“Alfie May missed several chances on Saturday and that’s not like him but on Thursday at training he was finishing everything he touched, so that’s the attitudes we want to see.”
Graham says he is keeping his feet on the ground.
He said: “Our ambitions are to keep winning games and see where that takes us come the end of the season.
“We aren’t setting any targets of play-offs. We are just focused on the next game and that is Faversham Town, who will push us all the way, so we need to be fully focused on that.”
