It's a shame that things haven't worked out, says Hythe Town chairman Paul Markland

HYTHE TOWN have announced the departure of joint-manager Tony Beckingham, leaving Clive Cook in sole charge.

Beckingham and Cook were appointed last month. Assistant manager Mark Lane continues in his role, although coach Darren Anslow has left Reachfields Stadium.

Beckingham was at the club for six games, the last being Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to fellow strugglers East Grinstead Town.

The Cannons are in the bottom four in the Ryman League Division One South table, having won three, drawn five and lost seven of their 15 games and are seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Chairman Paul Markland said in his statement, which was posted on www.hythetownfc.co.uk on Monday: “Clive and Tony came to us as a managerial pairing based on their longstanding friendship so it’s a shame that things haven’t worked out.

“However, it’s probably better for all concerned to realise this early on.

“We have now a more conventional manager/assistant manager set-up.

“We thank Tony for his support and wish him and Darren all the best for the future.”

The club added: “There are several candidates being considered for the post of first team coach and Hythe expect to fill this position soon.”

Cook is now back from his pre-planned holiday in Ibiza to take charge of Tuesday night’s vital away game at Whitstable Town.

Simon Halsey is still smarting from their 8-0 home defeat to Walton Casuals at the weekend.
