Every game's a hard game, says Hythe Town boss Clive Cook
HYTHE TOWN boss Clive Cook says he wants his side to continue where they left off against Cray Wanderers against struggling East Grinstead Town tomorrow.
The Cannons came away from much-fancied side Cray Wanderers with a 1-0 win at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night, courtesy of Alfie May’s eighth goal of the season.
Former Erith & Belvedere boss Matt Longhurst guided East Grinstead Town towards Ryman League Division One South safety last season and they are once again battling against relegation this time around and the Wasps travel to Reachfields Stadium with only Godalming Town below them in the table.
East Grinstead have collected one win and a draw from their opening seven league outings.
Hythe Town’s victory over Cray Wanderers has seen them climb up to seventh-place in the table on 14 points from 7 games, a couple of points behind fifth-placed side Greenwich Borough.
Cook has brought in midfielder Matt Newman, 28, from their Ryman Premier League rivals Folkestone Invicta ahead of the game, after Newman lost his place to Anthony O’Connor, a recent signing from North Greenford United.
But despite The Wasps lowly league position, Cook is expecting another tough game.
“It will be a difficult game, there will be no doubt about that,” said Cook.
“Matt (Longhurst) will have them organised, he was watching us on Tuesday night, we know that.
“I fancy us all the time but it’s what comes out, what appears on the day.
“Play-offs? You don’t even think about that! We won’t look at that until Christmas.
“We’ll keep doing the results, keep playing what we need to do, play against the teams who matter because the thing is they all matter because they’re all good sides. They’ve all strengthened, they all want to stay in the league or be involved in the top part so every game’s a hard game.”
Herne Bay, underachieving in the bottom four on five points from six games, are the visitors to Reachfields Stadium next Tuesday.
Cook added: “It will be a very interesting game but let’s worry about Saturday first. Let’s get Saturday’s one done. If we can do that Saturday, I’ll be happy.”
