Hythe offer incentive to Ashford fans
Monday 19th July 2010
HYTHE TOWN have launched an incentive for supporters of neighbouring Ashford Town to watch Tuesday night’s game against Whitstable Town, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Safety Net Associates Kent League club are inviting Ashford supporters to Reachfields Stadium to watch some football during the troubled Ryman League club’s suspension.
A club spokesman tells concerned Nuts & Bolts fans: “There are a number of friendly games at Reachfields in the next couple of weeks and whilst hoping that Ashford Town does not go down we would like you to know that we will always try to offer a friendly and cheap alternative at least while you wait for news.
“For any Ashford supporters who come to watch our match against Whitstable and pay their £5 or £3 at the gate, we will give you a pass for our next game on the 27th.
“Since this is against Maidstone United, it is a game you may well like to attend as you may even be able to find something out - please feel free to meet up in our bar if you so wish.
“Just bring any proof of address and you will be directed to where to collect your pass.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday night’s home friendly against Whitstable, who needed a late Dan Wisker penalty to defeat Corinthian at the weekend, Hythe boss Scott Porter should be able to select from a long list of returning players, including Lee Shearer, Pat Kingwell, Dave Cook, Martin Chandler, Mark Bond, Gavin Ransley, Jon Driscoll, Ollie French, Greg Smith and Adam Boxer.
John Walker and Steve Ward, meanwhile, are unavailable due to holiday and work commitments. Gary Clarke and Sam Marsh are the only two players known to have left the club.
HOLMESDALE manager Gary Davies has confirmed their pre-season friendly away to Crockenhill on Tuesday night has been cancelled as the pitch at Crocks’ Wested Meadow is “not ready.”
SEVENOAKS TOWN have confirmed that Toby Webb, Michael Cook and John Creasey have committed themselves to the Greatness Park club, ahead of the second pre-season friendly away to Three Bridges on Tuesday night.
Four youngsters, right back Chris Davies, goalkeeper Liam Barnes, forward Jack Taylor and centre half Ryan Wall have also signed and look set to be involved this season.
Charlie Burgess isn't available for the Three Bridges game, but boss Keith Levett hopes to give most players a 60 minute run-out in the game against the Sussex County League side, and then chop and change things after that.
The players trained at Greatness Park on Saturday, and Levett told www.sevenoakstownfc.org: "We had 16 there and did another good session, and the pitch is looking better, and benefited from the recent rain."
Meanwhile, it seems that Sevenoaks Town's FA Cup tie at Lingfield will have to be played elsewhere next month.
The Surrey side share their Godstone Road ground with the Surrey village's cricket club, and are looking for an alternative venue for the tie, due to be played on Saturday August 14.
TUNBRIDGE WELLS have unveiled Dave Williamson as their new under 14 manager.
Club spokesman Phill Allcorn told www.tunbridgewellsfc.co.uk : “Dave is an experienced coach holding a B licence in football. He has run a number of teams for many years now and has also helped greatly with the current Under 18's over the last 4 years.
“Dave held his first training session a couple of weeks ago and felt very confident that he could help the players improve, but is still looking for players to add to the squad.”
