Hythe Town boss Scott Porter brings in Aaron Lacy from Margate

Wednesday 25th May 2011
HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter has unveiled his second summer signing tonight as he prepares for the club’s inaugural Ryman League Division One South campaign, writes Stephen McCartney.

Aaron Lacy, 30 next month, has put pen to paper after agreeing terms with Porter tonight and joins striker Lloyd Blackman, who arrived from Whitstable Town earlier in the month.

Lacy, who started 37 games for Margate last season, featured for 3266 minutes for the Hartsdown Park club, but
didn’t actually score a goal last term, but his long-throws will certainly be an asset for Porter’s side next term.

Lacy signed for Margate in February 2010 after over six years with Maidstone United.  The versatile player started his career with Gillingham and has also featured for Lordswood and Chatham Town.

Bringing Blackman and Lacy to Reachfields Stadium signals Porter’s intent to ensure next season is another good one.

Porter said: “Obviously you probably know a lot about him yourself, he’s a full-back, midfielder, has
got great attributes to his game, a long throw.  He’s proven in the Ryman (League) and he’s a top bloke.  He’s put pen to paper tonight and we’ll crack on what we want to achieve at Hythe.

“He’s been at the Ryman Premier with Margate and he’s gone through all the leagues with Maidstone so he’s very experienced and he’s a good lad.

“He’s a winner, a battler and he’s a talker and he’s looking forward to jumping on the bandwagon basically and try and obviously go up the Ryman, really with us.

“I met him tonight and I’ve been in talks with him for a couple of weeks and I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Porter will sit down with last season’s Kent League title winning squad at the club tomorrow night – and he may have his third summer signing in tow.

“We’ve got all the lads down tomorrow to speak to them all individually and there might be another addition tomorrow night,” said Porter, 32.

“We’re getting there, we’ve spotted what we want.  We’ve got two out of the three or four that we’re going to get so we’re looking good.”

Porter was beaming with pride after he scooped the chairman’s award at the club’s presentation night, which was held at Folkestone Rugby Club.

“It shows it’s been noted what has been achieved down there.  I’m grateful for the award and it’s finished off a great time to a great season.”
