Hythe Town win the race to re-sign Mickelborough
Monday 28th June 2010
HYTHE TOWN boss Scott Porter has ended an eventful week by capturing the signature of Gary Mickelborough from Ramsgate, writes Stephen McCartney.
Mickelborough returns to the club for his second spell, and for those not familiar, possesses electric pace and is comfortable playing on the wing or at centre-forward.
Following 12 goals in his debut season in the Kent League (from the right of midfield), he secured a close season move to Ramsgate, where he scored 17 goals in Ryman League Division One South.
He started out in athletics as part of the GB Under 17 athletics squad. spending the next three years in athletics doing the 400m, before returning to football with local side Bromley Green, followed by Folkestone Reserves, Hythe Town, and Ramsgate.
A club statement said: “Scott's probable final signing signals his intentions for next season - Mickelborough joins fellow summer captures Brendon Cass and Lee Shearer, three players who scored a total of 57 goals between them last season, and have strengthened Hythe's defence, midfield, and forward line.”
Porter has persuaded Cass to drop down two divisions, having arrived from neighbouring Folkestone Invicta, a side that will be playing Ryman Premier League football, following a two-year absence.
And Shearer, who plays in the heart of defence, was Faversham Town’s leading goalscorer last season, as the Lilywhites clinched the Kent League and Kent Senior Trophy.
