I am hopeful that we can finish the season in a better position, says Fisher joint-boss Martin Ford

FISHER joint-manager Martin Ford says he wants to end the season on a high note.



The Fish have only Sevenoaks Town below them in the Kent Hurlimann Football League table after collecting two wins and three draws from their 23 league outings.

Ford says he is looking forward to their game at Eden Park Avenue against their bitter-rivals Beckenham Town, who are in a disappointing eighth-place in the table, with 34 points from 22 games.

Ford said: ”I’m very much looking forward to Saturday. I always have enjoyed my visits to Beckenham Town. It’s a great ground now to play your football.  The pitch is first class and I expect it to be a good football match with two sides that look to get the ball down and pass it.

“I know that both sides have a bit of history and rivalry between us so this will be my first experience of it.

”All the lads are looking forward to it and it’s a game that I definitely think that we can do well in. If we stay organised and take the form we showed from our last match against Lordswood into this one, then we will be ok.”

Ford added: “We have no injury worries and apart from Danny Akers, who is suspended, we have a full squad to choose from, with a couple of new signings through into the squad as well.”

There is no relegation from the Kent League again this season, but Ford has highlighted games that his side can collect points from.

He said: “We now think we have the players now to take us through to the remainder of the season and with a large number of promising youth players involved in the first team set-up, I feel we now have the makings of a decent squad until then.

”When you look at our remaining fixtures, apart from VCD, we play all the sides midtable or below so I think that will give me and (joint-manager) Billy Walton an indication how far we have come for the rest of the season.

“We have Greenwich Borough twice, Holmesdale, Deal Town, Woodstock and Canterbury all to play, so I am hopeful that we can put a little run together and finish the season in a better league position and on a bit of a high.”

Ford also confirmed that the club have parted company with Chris Hubbard, Carl Gibbs, Joe Jackson and Carl Demutrious, while Charlie McCarthy has made the decision to return to Ryman League Division One North high-flyers Thamesmead Town.
