I believe that I can score in every game and if I don't then I'm disappointed, says Adam Birchall

BROMLEY striker Adam Birchall admits to being happy to get off the mark for his new club.Birchall, 29, was released by League One side Gillingham in the summer and put pen to paper on a deal at Hayes Lane.
He is no stranger to Conference South football. In season 2010-11 he banged in 45 goals in 49 appearances for Dover Athletic and was the top goalscorer in the FA Cup that year, helping the Kent coastal club to the third round for the very first time in their history.
Birchall scored his first goal for his new club in Bromley’s 5-1 win away to Southern Counties East Football League champions Whyteleafe last Tuesday.
“It’s always nice to score and is always a confidence boost,” Birchall told www.bromleyfc.net.
“There wasn’t really any weight on my shoulders, more of an expectation of myself.
“I believe that I can score every game and if I don’t then I’m disappointed. No-one’s harder on myself than me. I got my goal, I’m happy with it and we’ll move on to the next game and hopefully I’ll get another one.”
Having made the move to Hayes Lane from Gillingham, Birchall is excited to be playing for Mark Goldberg.
The Ravens finished in third-place in Conference South last season – the club’s best ever finish in seven seasons at that level.
“It’s an exciting new chapter in my career,” said Birchall. “Obviously the move was done quite early in the summer, I spoke to Mark Goldberg and he excited me with the meeting we had.
“I’m not scared to go part-time, whereas before when I left Barnet to go to Dover Athletic that was more of a difficult decision, because when you’ve only known professional football and training full-time, it’s a scary thing and a lot of players go through it every year.
“But it’s something I’ve gone through before, I’m comfortable with, and when I spoke to the manager here, it ticked all the right boxes for me and is the right time in my career.
“I’m the sort of player that wants to be in a confident side and a side at the top of the table, and that’s what we’re pushing for so hopefully it’ll bring the best out of me.”
With Bromley now over half-way through pre-season, the forward is pleased with his progress and is looking forward to getting started, although he wouldn’t reveal his targets for the campaign.
“I’m happy with my fitness and how pre-season has been going. It’s a long old thing is pre-season, with a lot of running involved and getting up to scratch with your timing and other aspects of your game as a forward.
“I’ve always got targets for the season, but they’re always a secret (laughs)! If I hit the targets then I’ll of course tell you what they were!”
Bromley held League One side Swindon Town to a 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane yesterday, with striker Sam Higgins scoring for the home side.
It was the first time that the two sides met each other since Swindon Town’s 7-0 win over Bromley in The FA Cup First Round in 1976.
Bromley make the short trip to Eden Park Avenue on Tuesday (7:30pm) to play Beckenham Town, who celebrated winning two cups last season.
