I can't commit to Ryman League football, admits hero Button
Marlon Button, whose wonder goal helped Whitstable Town win the Kent Senior Trophy last season, has explained why he’s left the newly promoted Ryman League club to remain in the Kent League, writes Stephen McCartney.
The 30-year-old left-winger, whose cracking goal helped Whitstable Town beat brave Bearsted 1-0 at Dartford’s Princes Park in April, has opted to leave the Belmont - and Ryman League Division One South football - and signed for Kent League side Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday night.
In a letter written by Button and published on a fans forum, he said: “Just to let you know that I have signed for Erith & Belvedere. This was a difficult decision for me as Whitstable is a great club and I will always have such great memories there.
"It has the greatest supporters ever and I would like to put out a special thanks to them all for me, they have been brilliant and I will truly miss them.
“For the moment it is down to travelling problems and making the Tuesday night fixtures.
“I could not give 100% commitment to (manager) Mark (Seager) and the boys for the season and I don’t like to let people down and especially the team down in any way.
“Mark has been so supportive of me and I know that he fully understands my family and work commitments.
“I would like to thank Joe (Brownett) and chairman Tony Rouse for having me at the club and wish them both all the success in the world.”
