I don't think there's any easy games in the Kent League, says Holmesdale coach Ross Mitchell

HOLMESDALE coach Ross Mitchell says he wants his side to retain their competitive edge when their Kent Hurlimann Football League campaign kicks off on Saturday. The Bromley based club finished fourth-from-bottom last season and travel to Deal Town, who finished second from bottom.
Mitchell, who is goalkeeper coach and club secretary, is pleased to get their longest trip out of the way early.
He said: “You never know what you’re going to get with Deal.
“It’s a nice local game for us to start off with. We just have to go there with a mentality that we’ll approach most games. We’ve got to try and go and win it.”
Holmesdale then welcome Martin Larkin’s Tunbridge Wells side to Oakley Road next Tuesday, 7 August (7:45pm).
Tunbridge Wells, who begin at home to Fisher on Saturday, finished in fifth-place last season.
Mitchell said: “Again, by no means an easy game. They’re always tough to beat. They’ve got a good side. I know they’ve lost one or two players but they’ve brought players into replace them.
“I don’t think there’s any easy games in the Kent League and we proved that last year when teams played us. They had a bit of a shock results wise, but there’s no easy games in the Kent League.
When asked what Holmesdale’s aspirations are for the season ahead, Mitchell replied, “The aspirations are to be as competitive as we can. If we can have a good Cup run in any of the Cups then so be it, to gain some momentum.”
There will be plenty of football at Oakley Road this season. Greenwich Borough will continue to play their home games there and Fisher’s Academy side will play their home midweek games at the venue in the Ryman Youth League.
Mitchell added: “It is a struggle at times but we have an excellent committee. We’ve only got four or five on our committee but they’re really hard working members.
“You can look after the ground now and you can look at the clubhouse and facilities have improved over the summer. We’ve got new flooring, we’ve got new toilets. The ground is a lot smarter. It’s all been done by four or five members of the committee. It’s a struggle but it’s enjoyable.”
