I feel we're very close to getting things right, says Darts boss Tony Burman

DARTFORD boss Tony Burman says a victory over league leaders Bromley on Saturday will give his side the belief to kick on, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Lillywhites arrive at Princes Park sitting five points clear at the top of the Blue Square Bet South table with 22 points from eight games, although the Darts are finding their feet at this level for the first time - in fourteenth place - with two wins and three draws.
“Bromley have done fantastically well with the start that they’ve had with seven wins and one draw, they’re in a similar position to what we were in last year (in the Ryman Premier League) so it’s a big game and we’re really looking forward to it,” Burman told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“We’ve had some good games against Bromley when we wasn’t at the same level and now we’re in the same level.
“Bromley are at the top of the league and they deservedly there because of the start they’ve had.
“I know about their two strikers (Warren McBean and Paul Vines) and their team and I expect they know about our team as well.”
When asked how his side’s progress so far this season, Burman replied, “Points wise? Disappointing! But having said that some of the games we’ve played in we’ve done ok.
“But I feel that we just need to do a little bit better and have a little bit of belief and I’m sure it will happen very soon so I think we’ll kick on a little bit.”
When asked his thoughts on the new division, Burman said: “We’re really enjoying it. It’s definitely a little bit quicker and you get good teams and we have played against some very good players. The standard of football has gone up and that’s what we want to be involved in. We’re really pleased although at this moment in time.
“But we feel there’s nothing we should be frightened off and we need to get ourselves sorted and to start believing in ourselves and we should be ok.”
Reflecting on fourteenth place, the Darts stalwart said: “I think the league doesn’t lie, that’s where you are because of the points you’ve got.
“I feel were very close to getting things right and it’s just the belief you’ve got to have. We’ve brought a lot of players in and they’ve taken time to gel but we have to get over that sort of thing and that’s why we’ve got a big squad, but we’ll endeavour to plod along and do our best.
“At some stage within the games that we’ve played, we’ve played very, very well.”
Full-back Billy Burgess, meanwhile, is still ruled out through a dislocated shoulder, but Burman reported before training tonight that he has no other injury concerns.
Burman predicts a crowd of over 1,500 will turn out in force on Saturday.
“I think if we’re to get 1,500 that will be great and if we get anything above it then that’s credit to everyone involved,” added Burman.
