I hope Worthing respect us as we can score goals, warns Beckenham Town assistant Michael Marks

BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Michael Marks says his side have the attacking quality to produce another FA Cup giantkilling at Worthing on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Kent Hurlimann Football League side have already dumped out two Ryman League club’s during their run to the Second Qualifying Round, beating Walton Casuals and Metropolitan Police at Eden Park Avenue.

Jason Huntley’s side are scoring goals for fun this season, 33 goals in eleven goals so far this season and Marks says they do not fear their second Ryman League Division One South opponents.

The former Millwall ace said: “At the end of the day our Cup run has got to come to an end, that’s for sure.  If it comes to an end Saturday so be it.

“If we go there and get a draw or a win – but at the end of the day we’ve more realistically got a chance to win the league rather than winning the FA Cup.”

Worthing have a 100% home record in all four of their league games this season, but Beckenham’s left-winger, Jake Hobbs will be a threat, having taken his tally to ten for the season, following his 25 minute hat-trick during their 4-2 win at basement side Holmesdale last night.

Worthing, who handed former Chatham Town keeper Dean Ruddy his debut in last night’s 1-0 win at Walton & Hersham, have scored 21 and conceded 9 goals in their opening eight league games.

Marks said: “Worthing are scoring for fun as well.  I don’t think they concede many either.  We’re scoring goals for fun so please God, it’s a good game.

“We won’t let ourselves down and hopefully we can come away with a result.  I’m not saying we’ll win but if we can get a result that will do for us, go back to Beckenham Tuesday night.

Marks added: “We couldn’t play for a draw, even if we started 3-0 up.  There’s only one way for us to go.  We have to get at them.

“They’ll be frightened of us.  They’ll see us scoring goals and the two great results against higher opposition.  Metropolitan Police (who play in the Ryman Premier League) in the last round thought they would turn up and just roll us over but we’re better than that!

“We will go there as underdogs but we will certainly won’t go there fearing them.  We’ll show them respect but I hope they show us respect because we can score goals.  Let’s just hope we show that on Saturday.”
