I just hope Gavyn has good Dayes at Daggers, says Warrilow

TOMMY WARRILOW has explained the reasons behind the surprise move of one of his former players to Coca-Cola League Two outfit, Dagenham & Redbridge, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Tonbridge Angels boss released Gavyn Dayes, 24, about three weeks ago, bringing in Liam Harwood from their Ryman Premier League rivals Margate, but it seems that Dayes has regained his fitness and has signed on non-contract terms with the Essex club.
But because Dayes, who has also played for Fisher Athletic, Grays Athletic and Welling United, was a free-agent, following his release from the Longmead Stadium club, Tonbridge Angels will not get a penny from the deal.
“He had bad trouble with his back, so I told him to get his back sorted out,” Warrilow told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
“I knew he done pre-season with Dagenham & Redbridge so I knew there was a little bit of interest there, but he sorted that (deal) out with Wayne Burnett, as he was with Wayne at Fisher.
“When I told him to get his back sorted out, I had a chance to get Liam Harwood in, so Gavin was really a free agent, so he went down to Dagenham to carry on training and he’s there on non-contract basis.
“We get nothing out of it. To be fair, I sort of released him anyway from his obligations to us because I had to use his money to get Liam Harwood in so we knew what was going on, there’s no problems there.
“I just hope he cracks it and moves on because a fit Gavyn Dayes is a very good centre half, but he just wasn’t, by his own admissions, 100% fit and couldn’t get himself fit. He had a complete break from it for two or three weeks and got himself fit and now he’s got himself going again and a decided a deal with Dagenham is fine for him and he’s trying to earn a full-time contract.”
Meanwhile, back on the pitch, Warrilow described last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Ashford Town (Middlesex) as “frustrating.”
He said: “We’ve let two goals in, in three minutes but my personal opinion is we created enough chances to win the game.
“I thought if we had shown a little more desire in the right areas we would have got the result because the second half alone we had enough chances to win the game, but we didn’t take them.
“It’s just the story of the season, Saturday it’s raised it’s ugly head again and we came away with a loss.”
Looking ahead to the visit of struggling Billericay Town on Saturday, Warrilow said, “They’ve had a couple of good wins, they beat Boreham Wood Saturday. The thing is, as you know, for me, it doesn’t matter if they’re top, middle or bottom, anyone can beat anyone so I don’t care what league position any team is.
“It’s vital we get ourselves organised and look after our own ship and the rest will take carer off itself.
“I think the league positions this year are nothing to go by at all. It’s a case of stopping making it hard for ourselves, that’s the story of our season.
“We should have more points on the table. We’ve got no-one to blame except ourselves.”
