I'll carry on doing the job, vows under-pressure Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

Sunday 11th December 2011
BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg admits he is feeling the pressure of his side’s miserable run of defeats, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Ravens suffered their ninth defeat on the bounce when they were knocked out of the London Senior Cup (Sponsored by Coventry Scaffolding) today, as tenants Cray Wanderers came from behind to win 2-1 to claim the local bragging rights and a place in the quarter-finals.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Bromley came back from Dover Athletic on the back of a 4-1 thrashing at Crabble and remain in a precarious eighteenth position in the Blue Square Bet South table with 18 points from 19 games and are just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Eighth-placed side Dorchester Town visit Hayes Lane on Tuesday and nothing but a win will do for under pressure Goldberg.

He said: “That feeling of losing is a difficult one at the moment.  Very difficult to take but we’ve got to bounce back on Tuesday night and we’ve just got to stop this rot.

“It’s a very difficult time for me.  I’m feeling it!

“At the same time I feel that I can, with my management team, we’re capable steering Bromley out of this situation.

“For as long as I feel that I’m capable of doing the job, I’ll carry on doing the job, however difficult it is, but I can’t lie and say I’m enjoying it right now.

“I’m very disappointed with our run at the moment and I know what we need to do to put it right.

“We’ve got a difficult period coming up, Christmas time, but we’ve got to pick up points and start winning games.

“We do believe that we can but when you’re on this run it’s a really difficult time and each one hurts just that little bit more.

“I’m looking forward and we’ll prepare ourselves for Tuesday.  We’re hopeful we can stop the rot on Tuesday night.”

Bromley’s last victory came at Dartford in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round on 29 October and Goldberg has challenged his side to recapture their early season form.

He said: “Everybody’s beatable on their day.  We’ve beaten Welling and we’ve beaten Sutton and Dartford on our day.

“Whoever it is we’re playing against we’ll treat them with the utmost respect and we’ll believe that we can get the three points and we’ll go in Tuesday and the next few games believing we can win them.”

He added: “This season’s been a difficult season but we’re only half way three and we can improve.  We will improve and this year is about avoiding relegation and that we punch beyond our weight now in the next few games and get ourselves out of this difficult position we’re in.

“We just need to take one game at a time and grind out a win and yes, we have to win a good few games but we’ll keep going and we believe that we’re going to get there.”
