I'll play some of the younger lads and reserves in the League Cup, reveals Faversham boss Ray Turner

FAVERSHAM TOWN continue their Cup campaign in the shape of Eastbourne Town in the Ryman League Cup on Tuesday night, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Lilywhites welcome the tenth-placed Ryman League Division One South side in the second round of the League Cup competition.  A new rule has come in this season that if games are level after 90 minutes, there will be no extra time, the game will go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Faversham boss Ray Turner saw his side fight back from a 3-1 deficit to overcome Walton Casuals and advance to the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy last Tuesday and were without a game yesterday so they will be fresh for the visit of Eastbourne to Salters Lane.

“In some way’s it’s frustrating, but this game should leave the players’ with good memories,” said Turner, following the dramatic 5-3 epic win (after extra time) over Walton Casuals in the FA Carlsberg Trophy in their last game.
“I’ll play some of the younger lads and reserves in the League Cup on Tuesday night, giving them chances.”

The exit from The FA Cup at the hands of Carshalton Athletic, means Faversham’s players can bask in the glory of their FA Trophy comeback, when Adrian Stone (2), Aaron Quain, Justin Ascheri and Tom Hickman all finding the net in a sparkling team performance against Walton Casuals.

“This sends the players’ off in a good state of mind, to look after themselves (during their break) and come back raring to go for the next round.”

Faversham’s reward is a trip to Waltham Forest next Saturday.

Forest, who groundshare the bleak Crickelfield Stadium, 486 High Road, Ilford, are enjoying their best campaign for a long time as they lie in second place in the Ryman League Division One North table, two points behind Grays Athletic.

“I need to do a bit of digging to find out about Waltham Forest, but there’s no reason after the performance against Walton Casuals they we can’t go there on a high,” said Turner.

“We’ve won our two games in October, had a good run in the League with four wins out of six, so we’ve got to attack these games.  It’s a Cup competition, so why not?”

With recently injured players on the way back, including Dave Botterill, who returned to action as a second half substitute against Walton Casuals, Turner was boosted by the news that Damian Abel should be back against Waltham Forest next weekend.

However, Turner wishes striker Richard Sinden good luck at rivals’ Hythe Town, following his release from the club last week.

He said: “Richard has parted company with the club.  I can’t speak highly enough of Richard, what he’s given to the club over the last few seasons.  He’s fit and strong and will be an asset to Hythe Town and their dressing room.  I wish him all the best.”
