I'm going to keep working to bring in new players, says Tonbridge Angels boss Steve McKimm

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Steve McKimm says he has missed out on bringing a new striker to the club.

The Angels were thankful to rookie striker Royce Greenidge, 23, who scored a thirteenth minute winner at fourth-from-bottom side Harrow Borough in midweek to move up to seventeenth-place in the Ryman Premier League table with 27 points from 23 games.

McKimm decided to release striker Alex Teniola – who has since signed for league rivals Enfield Town - and midfielder Chris Piper on the eve of the game.

“It’s a tough thing but the decision had to be made,” said McKimm.

“I felt that I was looking to bring a new striker in and I need to free up some money and I’ve done that by releasing two players.

“Chris is playing in midfield, I’ve got four midfield players. Jack Brivio has now unfortunately gone down injured and that might be a season injury, I don’t know.

“At the end of the day you make the decisions, it’s tough because I know them but I’ve made the decisions.  If they come back to haunt me then so be it.

“I need to free up some money to bring some players in but then I’ve been on the phone all Monday and Tuesday to bring players in and they’d rather sit on the bench in Conference South than playing Ryman Premier League football which astounds me really, so I’m going to keep working, keep trying to bring a couple of bodies in and we’ll see where we are from there.”

McKimm has confirmed today that striker Marvin Williams has agreed to stay with the club until the end of the season, after previously stating that his stay at Longmead Stadium would be until Christmas.

McKimm told the club’s website today: “This is great news for the Angels. Marvin provides terrific pace and good movement up front and his agreement to stay with us until the end of the season will bring versatility to our attacking options.”

McKimm takes his side to third-from-bottom AFC Hornchurch tomorrow.  The Essex side have won five and drawn five of their 24 games this season and are six points adrift of the Angels.

McKimm, who was speaking after the Harrow game, said: “If we don’t get a result against Hornchurch, the win at Harrow doesn’t really mean a lot.

“Yes, it gave us three points and we moved up a couple of places but there’s still 23 games to go.

“I’ve put a makeshift side out there (at Harrow) and they’ve all stood up to a man and done fantastic for me so we go into Saturday, see what bodies we’ve got and see if I can bring anyone in and we go into Saturday against Hornchurch and give it our best shot.”
